new website header
Although I'm no longer directly involved in graphic design, it's great that I get to continue to play at it from time to time. Just in this simple website header, I got to play with Photoshop, Iphoto, Aperture, Resizeyourimage and place it here in the websites cms.
Friday
We almost completed installing the ductwork to the big cyclone dust collection system Friday. Our friend David McAffee has been working on this all week (plus some). He'll be back Monday to show our guys how to do the final install of the 15 lengths of flex hosing and we should be ready to go. David did a first rate job and was a pleasure to work with.
melody
Our dear neighbor of almost 50 years lost her husband and collie in the same week this Spring. This week Linda finally found a rescue collie from a local shelter, and introduced Melody to her new home. Although Melody seems to have had little (good) human contact, I think she's going to be just fine at her new loving home right on one of the most beautiful bends in Cypress Creek. (That's the creek just past and to the left of the red barn).
1% for the planet
I just received this email from this wonderful organization that I'm so proud to be a small part of. If you are looking for an environmental organization to be a part of, I'd suggest you take a look at these guys:
natalie chanin in garden and gun
I look forward to thumbing through each issue of Garden and Gun. What a nice surprise to find one of our area's most creative, Natalie Chanin featured. Great article. Check it out if you get a chance.
saturday mornings catch
This morning Linda was standing at the kitchen window and saw (our) two mallards with a single baby swimming behind. The (female) duck has been missing for a couple of months, we assumed sitting on her nest. While the drake's stayed fairly close by (he likes our corn).
I grabbed my camera and ran down to see if I could get a look and maybe a (photo) shot. Never saw the hen or the baby. Here's the best of what I did catch.
showroom friday afternoon
We are thinking about going all out and opening three hours or so a month during first fridays. Stay tuned.
making progress on the remodel
Should move some pieces in tomorrow. Looking forward to getting back to (furniture) work.
celtic earth month concert
Nancy Muse put on another wonderful event saturday night featuring Kinvara. Celtic is generally not my cup of tea, but we thoroughly enjoyed it. These guys are amazingly talented musicians. Seems like if the event is at Robert Rausch Gas Studio is always a treat.
72" walnut console
We completed finishing this walnut console and a couple more friday afternoon.
New slide show
Here's the new slide show that I spent too much time on this week. Now that I think I've figured it out, future ones should be easy. Ok, let me have it. What do ya think?
second cut
Here we were starting the second cut into this old boy. Ended up getting just over half of it flitch sawn and stacked today.
lining up - the sawmill to the log
We don't mess with these big logs any more than we have to. We generally try to get the log centered under the blade of the sawmill. From there, we adjust the sawmill to the log. measure and align the sawmill to the center of each side of the log. Well, not really the center the way we might think of the center. But the center of each side of the log, as in near where the tree's life began (the center of the grain).
(I swear I didn't know I was this bald!)
