three makitas
I can't say enough good things about my tracksaw system. It's safe, accurate, and safe. Here are the makitas all lined up and ready to go.
press
I'm as conflicted about press as I seem to be about the rest of my life. I need it for this little venture to work and grow. The conflicted part is that I'm totally camera shy. If I'm aware of the camera I go into a dumb stupor. Today Daniel Giles came by for the photoshoot. Won't know till next Sunday, but I'm afraid it went as usual.
cleaned up a bit
We did some much needed cleaning up and organizing getting ready for the photo shoot. Temporarily "repurposed" our photography room into a nice looking display area.
Bernie dropped by
Bernie with the local newspaper the TimesDaily stopped by today for a brief interview to be published in next Sunday's Business section. It's always a blast visiting with Bernie. He really did a great job last summer when he did the first article on my furniture biz and remodel.
two cracks, three butterfly joints, three legs
I wasn't sure I was going to make much from this slab originally. In the past, I've found good results with one crack down the center. Sand it down, place a couple of butterfly joints and all has been good. This poor slab had two big cracks down the center. We removed the center piece and proceeded. Gosh, I'm still shocked at just how nice this one turned out. I'll be looking for more double cracks.
the first
This table has been over two years in the making. We sawed the logs into natural edge lumber a couple of years ago. Immediately removed the bark with a draw knife, and it's been air drying since. Just a couple of weeks ago we removed our thickest lumber yet from the kiln. And, this is the first table to come from this 4" thick stock. Note; after we have planed it back flat the resulting thickness is probably 3.25" to 3.5".
tracksaw system
I don't know of a safer / better way to cut these massive tabletops. We have three sizes of makitas that fit into the base. And with this tracksaw system we get perfectly straight cuts with ease.
NO'ALA write up
Couldn't be more pleased with the first magazine write up of my furniture. Big thanks to Alan Tomlinson and crew. If you'd like to see the article, go to; blog.robinwadefurniture.com/, and select "recent press"
