Museum of Alabama Grand Opening
A new museum honoring the history of the state of Alabama opens August 27 in Montgomery. A $20 million addition to the Alabama Department of Archives and History allows “space for expanded educational programs, and for a new Museum of Alabama. The new museum will use objects and voices from the Archives' collections to present an overview of Alabama history." Says Ed Bridges, Phd, director of the state department of archives and history. "We tell the story of the people of Alabama by preserving records and artifacts of
historical value and promoting a better understanding of Alabama history."
Inside the museum, Robin Wade Furniture pieces are on display (the St. Luke’s low table-among others), and in use (benches provide seating). “In addition to being functionally perfect, they are attractions in their own right,” Bridges says.
During the August 27 grand opening celebration from 9:30am to 3:00pm, a number of speakers—including our own Robin—will offer presentations while activities for both children and adults are available. For more information on the event and the museum, visit http://www.archives.alabama.gov/.
