Alabama Furniture

In Florence, Alabama, Robin Wade Furniture’s Slow Studio handcrafts one-of-a-kind furnishings from locally sourced hardwoods just a few blocks from the banks of the Tennessee River, where the flowing waters dip south and carve a smooth semi-circle into the northwest corner of the state. Each table and bench showcases a unique juxtaposition of both modern and natural design, while celebrating Mother Nature’s unique artistry seen in each and every piece of lumber that comes into wood artist Wade’s Slow Studio.

Born and raised in this sleepy southern town, Alabama furniture maker Robin Wade returned home after many well-traveled, successful years away from Florence and the Tennessee River that shapes it.  Once back in northwest Alabama, Wade spent three years renovating his childhood A-frame home, originally built by his architect father and sited on a tributary of the river. “The media was primarily local hardwoods of walnut, sassafras, cherry, as well as local rock and stone,”  he says. Inspired by—creatively and emotionally—the gorgeous woods he used in the renovation, Wade began making his own 100% built-in-Alabama furniture.
