The SFC is the top organization in green furnishings. A non-profit balanced coalition of suppliers, manufacturers, retailers, and designers, the SFC was formed to promote sustainable practices with the best networking and education in our industry.

See recent video of a visit with Jeff Hiller at the Las Vegas Market about the sustainability of locally sourced wood and products.

We really like SFC's approach:

Good Business that is Good for Business

Importantly, we believe that sustainability has become a mandate among the buying public. As consumers become more educated, they seek out acceptable choices that meet their needs for style, value, and eco-responsibility. Our organization is known for its rigorous compliance with established sustainability standards to ensure that all members are demonstrably committed to ongoing improvement.

In 2008, we launched a public advertising and in-store tagging program for consumers to identify retailers and products which exceed our threshold sustainability standards. Our Standards Committee ongoingly reviews all legitimate, independent certification schemes to establish eligibility requirements. All who joined in 2007, our debut year, are designated Founding Members and we appreciate what their commitment has made possible.

We are currently over 400 members and growing strong, with a presence at all major furniture markets and trade shows throughout the country. The time is now — the solution starts with you!

Overarching benefits of membership and participation include:

  • Improved global environment and public health
  • Peer support for your commitment to make a difference to sustainability
  • Being recognized as an industry leader for sustainability
  • Brand differentiation
  • Liability and risk reduction
  • Regulatory cost reduction
  • Customer relationships extending beyond the sale
  • Increased competitive advantage
  • Tangible social responsibility

2011 Update;  Robin recently took SFC's GreenLeader's course.  He thoroughly enjoyed the course, and highly recommends it to anyone interested in learning more about this very important topic.
